2025 GRANT IS NOW OPEN

Cicely Northcote Trust Grants for 2025

The Cicely Northcote Trust is inviting applications from voluntary sector and social enterprise organisations working mainly in the Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham areas, (with a bias towards Lambeth and Southwark) that can offer services for people who are isolated.

The fundamental remit of the Trust, from its start in 1909 when it made possible the extension medical social work at St Thomas’ Hospital, is to fund work that addresses the health needs and consequences for people of any age that arise from their social situations.

Isolation, whether this be in children, teenagers or adults of any age, may be experienced in many different ways.  For example, a home educated child or a child living in temporary accommodation may be isolated from their peers; an elderly or disabled person may be isolated as a result of an unadapted living space or of having a distant; or non-existent family. A person or family may be isolated for language or cultural reasons.   There are many more examples.

Our interests will be in cultural and social activities, healthy indoor and outdoor living and psychological well-being.  However, the Cicely Northcote Trust favours work that is above all, innovative and imaginative, but does not fund work that is already within the remit of the statutory services.   The Trust also hopes for the establishment of projects that will run for the long term.

If funding is offered to a project or organisation, a link trustee is appointed to the recipient to offer help and advice, where appropriate, and to ensure that there is full accountability for the funds provided.   The Trust requests both interim and final reports on work that is funded and, with permission, final reports are recorded on the Trust’s website.

The Trust usually distributes between £30K to £35K annually and welcomes applications for projects of 1 to 3 years. The trustees can be flexible about the funds they allocate but annual grants are unlikely to exceed £5K - £10K. For an application form or further information, please consult our Office Manager, Alice Achola-Omara, who will be in our office on Thursday mornings, from 9am to 1pm.

AGM 2018

Cicely Northcote Trust held its 58th Annual General Meeting on 14th June 2018 at the Carmelita Centre in Vauxhall.

We were pleased to welcome lots of friends of the Trust along with representatives from current and past projects to the event. We enjoyed drinks and nibbles after the formal proceedings along with some interesting talks about the projects we funded in 2017. Thank you to our President Mrs Felicity Murdo-Smith for chairing the meeting and to all those who attended to support the Trust. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
